Male circumcision is in the vast, vast majority of cases, very successful for those men who, as adults, can make the decision for themselves to undergo such surgery, electively. There is a large population of men whose foreskin is intact, never had parentally-organised surgery as infants, and will always want to keep it that way. But, for those adult men who do want circumcision, Cleopatra Clinic can look after your needs in this regard.
Male genital surgery
Introduction
Men, as well as women, may wish to reshape their genitals. The only thing, however, which can really be surgically modified about the penis, is the foreskin & the frenulum of the penis. Many adult men have suffered for years from such problems as narrowing of the foreskin, or a short frenulum. All you have to do is to visit a plastic surgeon, and the remedy is usually simple. It consists either in removing the entire foreskin, or loosening of foreskin & lengthening the frenulum.
For aesthetic reasons, some men want a complete removal of the foreskin – circumcision. In some cultures, circumcision is performed routinely, and even in the USA foreskin removal is quite common; this surgery is performed on more than a half of American boys & men and it is said that circumcised men make better lovers. What is more, some scientific works demonstrate that their partners are far less likely to suffer from cervical cancer, and this is probably connected with significantly better hygiene.
Is penis enlargement possible?
Gentlemen, we have to disappoint you. Effective surgical enlargement of penis is really not possible. All that is possible is to put it a little bit forward from its socket so that it is slightly bigger in a non-erect state, but it results in its loosenings. So, when erect it does not hold firmly. Considering the resulting aesthetic & functional disorders this surgery does more harm than good.
I am a good candidate for this surgery?
If your foreskin is narrowed to such an extent that it cannot be pulled over the glans (this condition is called phimosis), circumcision is more than necessary. A worse & acute stage of phimosis is called paraphimosis: “Paraphimosis is a complication of phimosis, where the foreskin, already difficult to pull over the glans, is pulled over, but it does not retract and strangulates the penis. This results in the swelling of the glans.”
Another medical reason for circumcision is recurrent infectious diseases of the foreskin & the glans.
A patient requiring circumcision may also be a man who finds the presence of the foreskin uncomfortable for hygienic, aesthetic, personal or religious reasons.
Benefits of circumcision
According to some studies, circumcision reduces the risk of penile cancer. There is a substance, so-called smegma, which collects under the foreskin. It is carcinogenic, so it is thought to significantly contribute to penile cancer.
Circumcision reduces the risk of transmitting diseases to a partner, such as papillomaviruses, thereby reducing the possibility of developing cervical cancer in women.
The sensitivity of the glans penis is reduced, which leads to ‘delaying’, and according to some experts, this solves the problems of premature ejaculation & men’s sexual endurance is increased.
After circumcision the risk of transmitting fungal & bacterial infection is reduced, so that circumcision is highly recommended also from a medical point of view.
Male circumcision may indeed reduce the risk of HIV transmission. A World Health Organization (WHO) study confirmed a positive effect of circumcision on AIDS prevention. One of possible explanations is that a penis without foreskin is less susceptible to infections including sexually transmitted infections, which reduces the possibility of transmitting HIV. It is, however, necessary to point out that despite this discovery the use of a condom is still necessary.
How long does circumcision surgery take?
This is a short procedure that usually takes about 30 minutes.
What does this surgery involve?
Male circumcision is a short procedure, in which the foreskin, covering the glans, is surgically removed. The resulting wound is then sutured with soft, absorbable material.
Is it painful?
Although very sensitive places are being treated, you do not have to worry about pain at all. The procedure itself is performed under general anaesthesia. After surgery the operated areas are more sensitive for a few days, but no pain is experienced & everything will soon go back to normal.
What type of anaesthesia is used?
In most cases, circumcision surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. In patients where general anaesthesia is risky (elderly & ill people) or at the patient’s request, we can agree to carry out the surgery under local anaesthesia.
What happens after surgery?
After surgery performed under general anaesthesia, half to one day hospitalisation is necessary. If local anaesthesia is used the patient is discharged to home care immediately after surgery. The wound area is covered with a sterile cover for one day, then the area can be left freely, but it is to be disinfected several times a day. 2-3 weeks after surgery, increased hygiene is necessary & chamomile baths are recommended.
